The Tennessee Titans are scheduled to bring in two players that we know about in the next few days. One is former Denver Broncos guard Louis Vasquez and the other is former Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson.

More from Titans Free Agency

While I think both are interesting fits, Johnson seems like the best potential Titan to be. Part of that comes from an article by someone very familiar with the Titans. Paul Kuharsky of ESPN did a story on the two Titans visitors and this was what he found on Johnson.

"“Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss on Johnson: ‘Johnson was widely considered to be the field general for the secondary last season. He was respected throughout the locker room for his intelligence. He had five picks last season and four in 2014.’”"

That is a perfect description of what the Tennessee Titans need to replace what they lost when they cut Michael Griffin. They need veteran leadership who is a locker room presence and who commands respect.

  • For anything you had against Griffin on the field, the fact that he was an experienced leader and someone that defenders gravitated towards. Some people say that it was even his pitch that helped persuade Brian Orakpo to come to Tennessee.

If Johnson can be that for the Titans at a relatively cheap price, what not sign him? Some people will ask why they would let go into free agency if he was that good? Well, to be fair they do have Tyrann Mathieu as one of their starting safeties and they may want to move special teams captain Justin Bethel to safety after a nice year as a substitute corner.

I haven’t dug in deep on him yet, but with how well that team operated on defense I imagine he looked great in a career year. Going off of everything I have read and what little I have seen, I think he would be a great addition and fill a lot of needs both on and off the field.
