It is no secret that the Tennessee Titans are going to try to sell the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

More from Titans Draft

Well, there are several names that are almost always connected to the Titans in these trade talks. The Dallas Cowboys need a young quarterback who can win them games and who can develop into a starter when the time comes for Tony Romo to retire which may be soon if he can’t stay healthy.

The San Francisco 49ers have a new coach who can supposedly salvage Colin Kaepernick’s career, but he may look over the film and realize that he needs someone else to win and win quickly or else he and his GM may both be out of a job soon.

However, there are two teams that really may have a much bigger reason to trade up and they should have the ability. Let’s look at those two using the Drafttek trade value chart:

1. Cleveland

Drafttek cost:

Cleveland Browns receive: 1st overall pick, 97th overall pick (4th round)

Tennessee Titans receive: 2nd overall pick, 32nd overall pick

  • The Cleveland Browns need a quarterback, and not like other teams. Currently that is a town devoid of hope ready to sour on their head coach as soon as he makes a false step. As much as I believe in Hue Jackson, he has always had stability at quarterback.

Whether they love Jared Goff, Carson Wentz or Paxton Lynch the Browns cannot afford to get their second best quarterback especially if they aren’t believers in the other two. They get security for a pick that will almost surely be traded, and they get their guy.

On the other end, the Tennessee Titans essentially get two first round picks for a fourth rounder and a player they weren’t even going to draft anyway.

    2. L.A. Rams

L.A. Rams receive: 1st overall pick

Tennessee Titans receive: 15th overall, 43rd overall, 45 overall, 76th overall, 2017 NFL Draft pick (projected to be 21st)

The Rams have their franchise running back, they have a talented defense, they have some decent receivers, and they even have some offensive linemen. However, what they desperately need to dig out of the mediocrity 7-9, is a quarterback.

Now, the Rams are going to have to give up a fortune to get it, but it helps that they have two 2nd round picks this year to help cushion that.

If the Tennessee Titans aren’t absolutely in love with Jalen Ramsey or Laremy Tunsil, then this would be the huge move they could make. While that may look like a huge jump down here is a look at what this could end up looking like based on the Drafttek big board:

    15: Mackensie Alexander CB, Clemson

33: Jack Conklin RT, Michigan State

43: Michael Thomas WR, Ohio State

    45: Ryan Kelly C, Alabama

    64: Tyler Boyd WR, Pitt

    76: Jalen Mills CB/S, LSU

2017 pick: Nick Chubb RB, Georgia

    More from Titan Sized

Just like that the Titans have an outstanding roster. Look at the holes they plug with one move where they trust Jon Robinson who has done an excellent job finding talent in the second half of round one with the New England Patriots:

Offensive line: The Titans offensive line now has a very good left tackle, serviceable guards, my fourth ranked tackle, and my top rated center.

Defensive back: The Titans now have a true #1 cornerback in Alexander to pair with Jason McCourty and Perrish Cox. Not only that, but they have a versatile CB/S in Mills who will be a much better NFL player than a college player because he can finally stay at his right position.

Wide Receiver: The Titans starters would be Dorial Green-Beckham and Michael Thomas on the outside, with Kendall Wright in the slot and Tyler Boyd to come off the bench as a great #4 option.

Running back: If Chubb comes back healthy in 2016 then he could be one of four or five 1st round caliber RBs in that draft. That would be the final piece in rebuilding this offense.

That is all hypothetical obviously, but it shows that the Titans don’t need an “elite” guy at the top as long as they can identify talent, which Robinson can do. Devin McCourty was a late first round pick under Robinson and Rob Gronkowski and Jamie Collins were both players he helped find in the second round. This is a guy who can identify talent and rebuild, so let him do that like this.
