Tennessee Titans Dorial Green-Beckham, the breakout is coming
By Will Lomas
The Tennessee Titans got a much needed win yesterday with an amazing offensive performance. Marcus Mariota obviously deserves a lot of credit, and he will get some posts on this site this week for sure. However, let’s look at one of the sneaky stars of the game: Dorial Green-Beckham.

I was as hard on him as anyone when he volleyed the ball in the air on the deflection for Marcus Mariota’s only interception on the day. However, aside from that play he has really been very good this year.
You have to remember that this is a player who missed all of last year after transferring to Oklahoma. During his time at Mizzou, he was asked to do very few things: screens, nine routes, deep posts, etc. Not only is he transitioning to an NFL system, he missed a key year in development in college where most athletes learn to refine their routes and do more things.

So taking that all in, it is no wonder why he started off slow. He really is just now getting what would be the equivalent of his final year of college (12 games) under his belt in terms of his development.
Combine that with the rookie wall that everyone is supposed to hit, and his day yesterday is even more impressive.
So, aside from yesterday what accolades does DGB have?
-Among rookies with 20 or more catches, he leads the NFL in yards per catch average. He currently sits at 21 catches for 17.2 yards per catch, and his nearest competition is Stefon Diggs with 14.9 yards per catch.
-He is tied for second in the league in touchdowns by a rookie receiver with 3, and he sits just under Amari Cooper who has had three times as many catches.
-He is the only rookie receiver with less than 35 catches (he has 21) that has more than 300 yards (362).
-He also has managed to gain a first down on 95.2% of his catches.
That is a very impressive season, especially when you consider he was dealing with Zach Mettenberger at quarterback for his first two games.
There is a very bright future for DGB, and the Titans know it. According to radio reports, everyone spoke highly of DGB after the game saying that this is what he can be on a game-by-game basis.

Not only players are hyping him up though, Shawn Jefferson the Titans WR coach pulled him away from the celebration after the Titans knelled to run out the clock. He reportedly told him that this is how you bounce back after a bad play.
The final feather in his cap is that members of the local media have said that his growth with them has been tremendous. They have said that he seems to get more mature by the day and that he just gets it. It seems like he knows what he is doing wrong and he knows how to fix it and based on yesterday’s performance it seems to be working.
