Matt Miller’s latest Tennessee Titans picks for the 2016 NFL Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

Like I posted in my last article, the Tennessee Titans should be in full 2016 NFL Draft mode. Matt Miller is one Bleacher Report’s draft experts and he does a very good job keeping draft fans in the loop all year long. Today he dropped a 3-round 2016 NFL Mock Draft, and here are his thoughts on where the Titans should go in each round.

More from Titans Draft

Check out the whole thing here, it is a great read especially if you are interested in all of the teams and prospects, not just the Titans. Also, I will include some of his thoughts, but to read the detailed information I again urge you to go to the full mock.

Round 1, Pick 3 The Tennessee Titans select: Robert Nkemdiche DL, Ole Miss

His thoughts:

“That makes their choice at No. 3 overall about adding the most talented player on the board. With no need at quarterback, that becomes Robert Nkemdiche.

The great thing about Nkemdiche is his athletic versatility. He’s big enough to play as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme or inside at defensive tackle in a 4-3, but he’s athletic and agile enough to play as an edge rusher, too.”

  • My thoughts:

The first two picks off of the board were Joey Bosa and Laremy Tunsil, and in this mock draft he has the Titans drafting third (though if the season ended today they would draft second).

I think the best two players in this year’s draft are Joey Bosa and Vernon Hargreaves III, so it is hard for me to pass on VH3 here. He is the definition of a dynamic playmaker at the second level and his hands and instincts set him apart from every other player at that position. Putting him on the Titans would allow Perrish Cox and Jason McCourty to blanket #2 and #3 receivers and it would result in neutralizing players like T.Y. Hilton, DeAndre Hopkins and Allen Robinson. I think you have to go with him over a 5-tech.

Round 2, Pick 3 The Tennessee Titans select: Austin Johnson DL, Penn State

My thoughts: I really don’t know how you can give the Titans two defensive players back to back at the same position with this defense playing at a top-5 level right now. You have to go BPA in round one when you pick that high, but here you have to find someone that can start immediately and I don’t think that is Johnson.

If you go with who has been taken, I think the best players on the board are

-Cam Sutton CB, Tennessee (if you take RN first)

    -Jeremy Cash S, Duke

    -Tyler Boyd WR, Pitt

I would go with Boyd because he is a great possession receiver and he accounts for an insane portion of the Pitt offense even though everyone knows where the ball is going. Boyd and Mariota would be a great tandem if he is looking for a solid receiver that will be right where he needs to be on third down. This is the perfect compliment to a dynamic underneath receiver in Kendall Wright and a talented athletic freak in DGB.

Round 3, Pick 3 The Tennessee Titans select: Steven Daniels LB, Boston College

My thoughts: Again, I would not go defense heavy in this draft. Jason Spriggs is a very interesting option here to play at right tackle, however I would go with Max Tuerk the center from USC.

Tuerk is big enough to play either center or guard at the next level and the Titans need to retool their interior OL and he is a key piece. Even if Andy Gallik and Jeremiah Poutasi (if the switch him to guard) turn out to be good interior players Chance Warmack is definitely replaceable at this point. You have to protect Mariota and I think Spriggs or Tuerk are the guys to draft here.
