Tennessee Titans: Still making roster moves
By P. L. Colter
Earlier today, Titan Sized editor Les Bailey took a closer look at the Tennessee Titans’ final 53-man roster. He also added this caveat…
“After analysis of the waiver wire, the final roster could change again before the season gets underway, with possible changes coming anytime.”
And he was absolutely right.
Tennessee wasted no time in re-finalizing their final roster, as Jim Wyatt of Titans Online reported this afternoon.
The Titans claimed inside linebacker Steven Johnson (Denver), and outside linebacker / defensive end David Bass (Chicago) off waivers.
Johnson played a big role with the Broncos last season, starting 14 games on defense while contributing on special teams. Bass recorded three sacks in eight games last season for the Bears.
Already thin at the position, Tennessee is looking to upgrade their reserve linebackers…who were less than impressive this preseason.
The new Titans were brought in to replace linebackers Jonathan Massaquoi and Justin Staples. Both were released as a result of the signings.
Wyatt also reports that Titans rookie rb David Cobb has been placed on the injured reserve – designated to return list…which means that he will be allowed to return to practice in six weeks, and to live game action in 8 weeks. This allows Cobb plenty of time to heal his plethora of offseason ailments.
As a result, Tennessee traded a 2016 conditional pick to Cleveland for second year running back Terrance West, who must have been feeling claustrophobic in that crowded Browns’ backfield. In his 2014 rookie campaign, West totalled over 400 combined yards with 5 combined tds while splitting time with Isaiah Crowell and Ben Tate. Cleveland also drafted another running back this year, making West expendable.
To make room for his arrival, the Titans released fan favorite tight end Chase Coffman.
Tennessee also added seven players to their practice squad. Players of note…seventh round pick Tre McBride (wr), and wide receiver Rico Richardson..who scored two tds this preseason.
As previously stated, stay tuned…this could be updated at any time.
