Tennessee Titans OTA notes 5-26
By Will Lomas
The Tennessee Titans have their first full OTAs of the 2015 season in the books, and here is a look around the league to see what those who were there had to say.
ESPN Paul Kuharsky (story here)
Kuharsky didn’t have any direct opinions in that piece, but he did have several good quotes. All in all, it seems like the practice went very well and Marcus Mariota carried himself very well in his first practice. Kuharsky did say in the video at the top of the page, that it “didn’t look to big for him” when talking about how Marcus Mariota looked in the huddle.

The best nugget of information from him was this:
“Hakeem Nicks, a veteran wide receiver who is also a newcomer, said Mariota reminds him some of Eli Manning because of their similar soft-spoken demeanors.”
That is a very apt personality comparison, and we all saw how Manning’s team and city responded when Tiki Barber bad mouthed his former quarterback.

Jim Wyatt (twitter account here)
Like Paul Kuharsky above, Jim Wyatt didn’t do much long term speculation, but he did have some opinions on what he saw. Here are some of the quotes from his timeline which can be found above:
“One matter-of-fact observation from Tuesday’s OTA: WR Justin Hunter had a good day”
That is great news for the Tennessee Titans, if Marcus Mariota can develop a chemistry with Justin Hunter and Dorial Green-Beckham they can both make him look very good with their catch radiuses.
“Kendall Wright said he’s been impressed with Marcus Mariota. Said he’s quiet, but that’s OK with him”
Kendall Wright is a key figure in the locker room, and while Justin Hunter and Dorial Green-Beckham can do more for Marcus Mariota on the field, it is Kendall Wright and Delanie Walker who likely control that locker room.
Summary
That is all the news so far, and all signs are pointing up. It looks like the wide receiver position could be better than expected and with all eyes on Marcus Mariota in his first practice, he didn’t wilt. Not only that, but he didn’t try to act phony and impress rookies by acting like something he is not.
If Marcus Mariota is successful on the field, then he can be as quiet as he wants and no one will say a word to him.
