Tennessee Titans add WR Hakeem Nicks

Two weeks ago the Tennessee Titans were heading into the draft with a gaping hole at right tackle and wide receiver. Despite not adding huge names, the Tennessee Titans have now done enough at those positions to focus on value rather than forcing a fit.

  • The Tennessee Titans signed Hakeem Nicks to a one-year deal today. Now, according to PFF, they will have four receivers who started 550 snaps or more in their previous season. This is more than the team had in over eight years (which is as far back as they had tracked the data).

Hakeem Nicks is a talented player who wasn’t needed last year behind T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener, a healthy Dwayne Allen, and Reggie Wayne. With that in mind, his disappointing one-year prove it, deal from the Indianapolis Colts was a let down.

The Tennessee Titans aren’t expecting Hakeem Nicks to come in and blow anyone away, but he is a talented player who has caught 349 passes for over 5,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. He also has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the New York Giants, and with the Tennessee Titans desperate for winners on their team they find another one here.

This is a good move from the Tennessee Titans if they expect him to come in and compete for the fourth receiver job. Hopefully they can find some value here in round two or three that will make him a rotational player rather than the team’s starting outside threat.

If that is the case then fans should enjoy this move and be glad to have a talented bench. If not, then this move could put even more stress on whoever is going to play quarterback next year for the Tennessee Titans.
