With the 2015 NFL Draft 20 days away (almost to the hour) the Tennessee Titans are going to find themselves in the headlines a lot in the next few weeks. With Jameis Winston all but a guarantee to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first pick, the second pick is now the hottest topic of discussion in the media. With Marcus Mariota getting more and more suitors, the question at this point may be which team drafts at #2, not which player gets drafted.
The latest team to be linked to the dynamic Oregon quarterback is the Cleveland Browns. While reports broke weeks ago that the Cleveland Browns were really interested in Marcus Mariota and that they wanted to move away from Johnny Manziel, the rumors and stories are really ramping up that the Cleveland Browns are willing to make a big move to get their quarterback. So what does that mean exactly?

Well, according to Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk, multiple league sources, “The Browns are interested in trading their two first round picks- 12 and 19- to acquire Marcus Mariota.” That all according to the video linked above discussing the potential move.
More from Titans Draft
- Tennessee Titans suspiciously quiet about major draft need
- 3 needs that are being overblown by Tennessee Titans fans
- Tennessee Titans must be careful trading down in the 2023 NFL Draft
- Tennessee Titans should only spend their premium draft picks on offense
- Tennessee Titans connections may be crucial for a draft day trade
The Tennessee Titans are the pressure point in yet another draft due to their draft philosophy of taking BPA despite potential need areas. The perfect example of this is last year when they drafted Taylor Lewan instead of a pass rusher or a defensive back, because he was the highest player on their board.
“Is it getting harder for tackles to adjust to the NFL? Outside of Lewan none covered themselves in glory.”- Khaled Elsayed of Pro Football Focus
This has turned out to look like a great decision as Taylor Lewan looks like potentially the best offensive tackle taken in last year’s draft. For those who might have missed it, check out the praise that Pro Football Focus (deservedly) heaped on the Tennessee Titans new left tackle,”Is it getting harder for tackles to adjust to the NFL? Outside of Lewan none covered themselves in glory.”
With their desire to maximize the value of their picks, why wouldn’t the Tennessee Titans be the perfect fit to trade down with the Cleveland Browns? The 12th and 19th overall picks for the 2nd overall pick makes a lot of sense from a value standpoint from the Tennessee Titans side. Maybe they can also grab a late round pick to use to move up in this draft later or to add depth to a depleted roster.
Either way, with the Cleveland Browns ready to make this move, the Tennessee Titans should be very interested in shipping Marcus Mariota off to them…if they are the highest bidders of course.
