The Tennessee Titans are in the market for a new President, and John McClain has someone familiar in mind to take the job.
According to Paul Kuharsky and The Midday 180 broadcast, the longtime Houston Oilers and Houston Texans beat writer says that there should be two names standing out above the rest in the search for a new President:
“…for the Titans presidency…Oliver Luck is a great choice”-John McClain
“Steve Underwood is McClain’s #1 pick for the Titans presidency, but if not says Oliver Luck is a great choice.” -report on comments made by John McClain on the Midday 180.
For those who don’t know much about those candidates, this is what they bring to the table.

Steve Underwood
–According to the team website, Underwood has more than 30 years of involvement with the Oilers/Titans organization, at least in some capacity. Of those 30 years, the last five have been spent as “Senior Executive Vice President, General Counsel/Executive Assistant to Chairman of the Board” which is an impressive sounding title (if you can remember the whole thing).
-He has experienced the highs and lows of the team building process, and knows how what it takes to make a Super Bowl caliber team.
-He is in the Nashville area already, which was a huge issue with management in the past.
-By all accounts he is the right man for the job, and he has more in-house experience with this organization than any other candidate. If the Titans follow their historical M.O., then this inside hire is right up their alley.

Oliver Luck
-His entire football career (four years) was spent on the Houston Oilers, and he saw first hand how the run-and-gun, Warren Moon offense grew.
-Aside from a plethora of off they field honors and accolades (like being the Republican Nominee for Congress in West Virginia), he was the league president of the World League of American Football.
-During that time he also took his team (you know, the Rhein Fire) to the World Bowl twice, winning both times.
-Luck was key in establishing interest in international football, and held a high ranking position with the NFL for several years.
-Most recently, Luck was the athletic director at West Virginia University.
Summary
While both candidates have their own strengths, this really is a coin flip in terms of which would be the better hire. On one hand, you have a savvy, long-time employee of an NFL management position who has moved up the ranks in the organization he would be taking over.
On the other hand, you have someone who has been around football at multiple levels for most of his life. Luck has pretty much seen it all and could give the Titans a fresh look if that is what they wanted.
In the end, both of these hires make sense on paper, but while hiring Luck is intriguing because of his ability to build a team that could stop his son, ultimately I think Underwood deserves the job more.
