If these things happen the Tennessee Titans will not only go to the playoffs, but to a Championship game.

I am high on what the Tennessee Titans could be this season, but I am doing that expecting minimum contribution from the rookie class.

I love who the Titans drafted and I trust Jon Robinson, I just know how hard it is for rookies to have a meaningful impact on a team with a winning record.

However, my skepticism is not shared by Bucky Brooks who said that he thinks the Titans have the 2nd best draft class in terms of immediate impact. Read all the rankings here, but here are some of the things he mentioned should happen:

More from Titans News

-Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor should become core players, and could develop into something more immediately.

-Jonnu Smith should be a player to build around.

-Marcus Mariota will use these pieces to develop into a high caliber QB.

-Adoree Jackson will be the starting CB2 for this defense.

-Jackson will also be a dynamic player on special teams.

That is an outstanding draft class. Generally the rule is if you came away with a big impact player and two other above average starters you really did well in a draft.

Jon Robinson looks to have done exactly that last year with Jack Conklin, Kevin Byard and Derrick Henry, not to mention Tajae Sharpe and LeShaun Sims.

I would also like to say that I think Jayon Brown is a sleeper to get 500+ snaps this year. The Tennessee Titans have one player on the roster who can cover a tight end: Kevin Byard. It seems like they want to use him as a high safety.

So that means that the Titans need to find someone that can cover a tight end in the box. Avery Williamson can’t and I don’t think they see Wesley Woodyard as a long term option even though I like what he does in coverage.

  • If Brown can cover a tight end well, he would be great and probably the most valuable (non-pass rushing) linebacker on this roster schematically.

Still, even if that doesn’t happen and the only thing this rookie class does is what Bucky Brooks predicted, this team will go to the playoffs. Why stop there though, what would this team lack?

If the team did the same thing it did last year (which is reasonable) look at what you have in ever unit.

Quarterback: The best young quarterback in the NFL who is remarkably efficient and has taken his deep ball to a top-end level. All that combined with athleticism and weapons make for a dangerous QB.

Running back: Maybe the best 1-2 RB punch except for maybe the Atlanta Falcons. The Titans have power running backs with the finesse to run outside as well and catch passes.

Tight ends: Delanie Walker is a top-3 TE in the NFL every year, I won’t listen to any slander. Behind him you have an athletic, carbon copy of Walker in Smith and a blocker in Phillip Supernaw.

Offensive line: An outstanding unit, we all know they are one of the best in the NFL.

Front seven: Jurrell Casey, Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan are the stars of this front seven and each deserves a Pro Bowl bid if they preform the same way next year. Nose tackle and coverage linebacker are the only questions here.

Defensive backs: If Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson are just average, this unit will be substantially better than they were in 2016 and will look like stars. At safety, the Tennessee Titans have two safeties with clear roles that should thrive in this defense. They are also young with Johnathan Cyprien and Kevin Byard being 27 and 23 respectively.

That is a stacked team and one that should go to the playoffs and contend with anyone. Man, it is almost time to see what the Titans can be…just a few more weeks.
