Did Andre Johnson open a spot for Alshon Jeffery?

As the Chicago Bears play tonight think about this. Jon Robinson just potentially passed up a chance to trade for Jamie Collins on a day where Andre Johnson retired.

So, I am a conspiracy theorist and as you can see by the title of this article I am hoping that there is a reason why the Tennessee Titans needed to keep that extra third round pick. I hope that reason is Alshon Jeffery.

Let’s say that the Titans aren’t going to trade both third round picks because they don’t want to go two whole rounds without a pick. I think that is a fair thing to take as a rule here.

  • Alright, so they only have one third round pick to trade to really make a big play for someone that they think can be a huge factor long term.

Let’s play the “what if” game.

(THIS IS ALL CONJECTURE AND ME GUESSING)

-What if Andre Johnson’s decrease in playing time forced both he and the Tennessee Titans to look at his future with the team.

-What if the Titans told him they were going to start activating Harry Douglas and leaving him inactive to try something new.

-What if Johnson and the Titans mutually decided that maybe it was time for him to retire.

-What if when they made that move, they weren’t thrilled with Harry Douglas as their key guy off the bench and started looking at potential options on the chopping block.

The likelihood of all of that is not good. In fact, it almost plays out as a fantasy, especially for someone like me who thinks that this offense could be really good with one more weapon on the outside.

Alshon Jeffery is a dynamic playmaker who is the embodiment of “go up and get it”. He has played with inaccurate quarterbacks his entire career and I would bet that he is looking for something different.

If the Titans offered the Bears their lowest 3rd round draft pick for Jeffery it makes a ton of sense for both teams. Jeffery wants out by most accounts and the lack of negotiations with the Bears is rumored to have made a rift between he and the team.

The Titans need a dynamic player outside on this offense and they have an open spot on the roster and it happens to be at wide receiver. With this move, Tajae Sharpe can rotate in and out, Kendall Wright stays in the slot, Rishard Matthews moves to the #2 WR spot and Alshon Jeffery is the #1.

I am sure this is all conjecture and that the Titans are not going to do this. In all likelihood the Titans will use this move that open spot to bring Tre McBride up to the active roster instead of being used  on Jeffery. But, I can dream right?
