Tennessee Titans power rankings around the league Week 5

The Tennessee Titans had a Bye Week this week, but that doesn’t stop the wheels of the NFL from moving. With some just plain bad games this week, and some other surprises, let’s see where the Tennessee Titans rank after Week 4.

“It was bye time in Nashville — Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn and the guy with the seashell chokers all took the week off. So did the 1-2 Titans, who have been far peppier through three games than most anticipated. Sure, the Week 3 loss to the division-rival Colts was gut-wrenching, but I don’t want to be a Negative Nancy: How about the fact that Tennessee isn’t laying down for anybody right now?

The biggest area to improve going forward? Limiting big plays in the passing game. ”

-Elliot Harrison

Not sure why country music and poor necklace choices got knocked to start the commentary, but we just have to power through that. He is right, this team has some fight in it for the first time in about half a decade and if this team can limit big plays in the passing game then they will be great. If they had done that in the past, they would be 3-0.

With Jason McCourty back, this team has a good chance of fixing that.

“Marcus Mariota got off to a hot start, but will it continue coming off the bye? There’s no reason to think it won’t.”

    -Pete Prisco

Hard to argue with this as Marcus Mariota looks better every week Jameis Winston plays. Mariota doesn’t look like a rookie and he is elevating this team to new heights offensively. I am excited to see what they do against a good Buffalo Bills defense.

    ESPN.com: 23 (24)

“Keeping Marcus Mariota upright will be key for the Titans following their bye. Mariota has been sacked on 10.6 percent of his dropbacks this season, second highest in the NFL.”

    -ESPN

This is a true statement and is something that will be in the spotlight against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills rank 19th in the league in sacks behind the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots, both of which have only played four weeks. So while they are a menacing defense on paper, they really haven’t been getting the quarterback.

If the Titans can keep them from getting to Marcus Mariota cleanly, then I think he can deal with the pressure. It will be an interesting matchup for sure and it will tell you a lot about what the team got accomplished over the bye week from a film study standpoint.

    Composite ranking: 23.3 (24.6)
