The Tennessee Titans endured an embarrassing defeat to the Washington Commanders in Week 13. Nothing is a given following such a letdown, but the conditions are perfect for starting quarterback Will Levis to have a massive game against one of the franchise's biggest rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14.
Since returning from his shoulder injury, Levis seems like he has truly taken a step forward in his growth as a quarterback. The splash plays down the field are exciting, but he's also done a better job throwing the ball away when a play is dead, or tucking the ball and trying to minimize damage instead of making bonehead decisions.
There are several reasons why Levis could enjoy a career-best showing against the Jaguars
According to passer rating, Levis's best game of his young career came against the Jaguars last season when he completed 76.5% of his passes for 9.3 yards per attempt, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Since then, the Jaguars' passing defense has only gotten worse with the team ranking dead-last in the NFL in passing yards allowed, worst in QB rating allowed, 28th in sacks, and 28th in interceptions.
On top of all of that, the Jaguars will be without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was placed on IR earlier this week after suffering a scary-looking concussion. The 2-10 Jags have precious little to play for, with a terrible defense and starting QB on IR. Furthermore, head coach Doug Pederson is expected to be relieved of his duties at the conclusion of this season.
If the Titans defense can control an injured Jaguars offense, Brian Callahan should be able to stay on schedule with his play calling and have the entire playbook open to him. Part of that will probably include targeting Calvin Ridley early and often in what should be a fun revenge game for him.
Speaking of Callahan, don't be surprised if he is more aggressive than normal in this game after the team's embarrassing performance against the Commanders. He did not take that loss well and he could take out those frustrations on Sunday.
Callahan hasn't spearheaded the Titans to a 30-point performance at home yet and Levis hasn't passed for more than 300 yards at Nissan Stadium in 2024, either. It will be exciting to see if they both have breakthrough performances against an AFC South rivalary team. The Jaguars are an ideal opponent given Levis' current form.
