It took one highlight reel play to make Titans fans feel better about Cam Ward

The Tennessee Titans may not be in for many wins this season, which makes it even more important that they get enough confidence in 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward to feel good about their chances of competing with him at the tip of the spear.

While the Titans did lose in Week 1 to the Denver Broncos, Ward's poor stats can be blamed on a terrible day at the office by his offensive line and wide receivers. Week 2 against a more beatable Los Angeles Rams defense produced more highlights and a career milestone for Ward.

Ward managed to connect with fellow rookie Elic Ayomanor for what would become his first ever NFL touchdown pass, and it will be one that Titans fans remember forever if he is indeed the one who will solve a decade of quarterback incompetence. Even if he doesn't, this is still quote the fun play.

After drifting back to as far as the 30-yard line, Ward launched the ball deep into the end zone before it found the waiting arms of Ayomanor, helping the Titans make this game a little bit closer. Ward certainly got touchdown No. 1 in style.

Ward left the third quarter having completed 12 of his 21 passes for 134 yards in addition to his touchdown pass. While not earth-shattering numbers, the fact that Ward is operating this calmly and effectively against a defense that has some big names on it should earn some serious praise from NFL evaluators out there.

Ward has been working with an offensive line that has been perhaps the biggest disappointment of this Titans season in addition to a poor wide receiver room that was already known as a weak spot heading into the season, which is not an ideal environment for a rookie quarterback.

Even if the Titans start out the season on a losing streak, there have been more good things about Ward's first extended NFL action than there have been negative marks against him, which should give fans confidence in assuming the production will come once the infrastructure improves.

Titans fans will need to endure another season of slights from opposing fanbases, but if Ward is consistently uncorking big plays like this, look for the Titans to eventually get things turned around once they weed out some of the problems around him.
