When the NFL Draft kicks off in less than two weeks in Pittsburgh, the Tennessee Titans will be watched closely as they will be the first team within the AFC South to draft. Assuming they don’t trade down, Mike Borgonzi will have his choice at a top-five talent to bring to Nashville.
As of right now, the Titans will then pick 35th overall in the second round after the fourth pick. They could have the opportunity to trade back up into the first round, or just stay put until Round 2. When the first round starts to slowly come to an end, one of their bitter rivals, the Houston Texans, will be making a pick at No. 28 overall.
However, NFL Mocks’ Tarringo Basile-Vaughan put together a mock draft where the Titans see a nightmare scenario coming to life where they have to watch the Texans get stronger through a blockbuster trade.
In Basile-Vaughan’s mock draft, the Texans trade the 28th pick to the New York Giants in exchange for star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and No. 105.
Mock blockbuster trade has Titans fans going into major panic
Earlier this month, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Lawrence requested a trade out of New York due to failed revised contract negotiations the last two offseasons. Now, Lawrence could be on his way out of New York, especially given the fact that the Giants have a new regime under John Harbaugh.
Now granted, Lawrence is a star player so it would be absolutely shocking to see him get traded. Then again, we have seen bigger star players get sent somewhere else following trade requests.
The fact that in this mock draft, all that the Texans had to give up was their first-round pick to acquire Lawrence and a fourth-rounder would be unbelievable. Houston already has the best edge-rushing duo in the league with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr.
If there was ever a world where the Texans found a way to bring in Lawrence to plug into the middle of the defense, that would make them have by far the best defensive line in football by over a mile ahead of the second-best. unit.
Lawrence is a great run-stopper who can provide fantastic interior pressure. Adding him to Houston could honestly be the difference maker in the Texans making a serious run towards a Super Bowl.
The last thing that Titans fans want to see is the Texans adding more star power to their already stacked defense. If Tennessee had to go into a game against Houston where they would have to figure out how to contain Houston’s defense that fielded Lawrence, it would be an absolute nightmare and it most likely wouldn’t end well for the Titans.
