The Tennessee Titans are expecting production from the running back position in 2025. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are expected to form a one-two punch for Brian Callahan. The Titans are relying on Spears to be healthier and more impactful than he was throughout 2024.
Mike Borgonzi's roster also possesses an intriguing amount of depth at running back. The Titans selected former Michigan ball carrier Kalel Mullings with their final pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Former undrafted free agent Julius Chestnut is also still on the team, and a rookie UDFA was added in Micah Bernard.
Despite being five-deep at the position, Borgonzi made another move to add veteran competition to the backfield. The Titans are signing Ty Davis-Price to a two-year contract, according to a report by Ian Rapoport.
Titans send message to young RBs with latest free-agent signing
The San Francisco 49ers selected Davis-Price with the No. 93 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. That's fairly high for a running back. Despite that, Davis-Price failed to meet expectations in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Davis-Price appeared in just six contests as a rookie and recorded 34 carries for 99 rushing yards. He was released midway through his sophomore season and re-signed to the practice squad. Davis-Price eventually joined the Philadelphia Eagles, but failed to establish himself there as well. Like in San Francisco, he was an on-again, off-again member of the reserve roster.
Davis-Price is nearing bust territory. He's joining a crowded Titans room that now has four players battling for one or two roster spots. Davis-Price will attempt to push Bernard, Chestnut, and Mullings throughout OTAs and the training camp. Mullings is the favorite to capture the RB3 role, based on his draftee status and special teams upside as a former linebacker turned running back.
The Titans are attempting to embrace competition at every position on the roster. Signing Davis-Price lessens the chances that Chestnut and/or Bernard make the roster.
