The Tennessee Titans have attempted creative measures to solve their right tackle woes this season. By creative, we mean head coach Brian Callahan has inserted five different players into the starting lineup. Nothing has worked, but their efforts have been admirable given the personnel-related difficulties. Earlier this week, we received a reminder of how horrid the situation has been when the Titans released offensive tackle Leroy Watson.

Watson started four games at right tackle for the Titans earlier this season. He's since missed four contests with a back injury. Since Watson last appeared for Callahan's offense in Week 10, Tennessee has played more blockers at right tackle in Nicholas Petit-Frere, Isaiah Prince, and John Ojukwu.

Petit-Frere has spent the majority of the campaign at right tackle. He's allowed a league-high 10 sacks among all offensive tackles this season, according to Pro Football Focus. That's an extremely alarming stat considering he's routinely sat on the bench. Petit-Frere has played just 62.14 percent of Tennessee's offensive snaps this season, per Pro Football Reference.

Watson made his regular-season debut in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. The former Cleveland Brown was whistled for three penalties and allowed two pressures. That was the first time starting quarterback Will Levis wasn't sacked this season, but Watson was benched in Week 7 after failing to impress versus the Colts.

Watson was not only benched, he was downright inactive. The Titans shifted to a tandem of Petit-Frere and Jaelyn Duncan, but Duncan was injured in that game. Watson returned in Week 8 and played three consecutive games until injuring his back in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Watson played 190 snaps for the Titans offense this season. He was whistled for an alarming eight penalties. Watson was tagged with allowing one sack and nine pressures. His average pass-protection grade was 37.8.

The Titans recently designated Duncan to return from IR. Given Petit-Frere's struggles, it's possible Duncan concludes the season as the starting right tackle. Either way, GM Ran Carthon will enter the offseason with right tackle sitting atop his wishlist.

Carthon made several transactions in addition to the move to release Watson. Preseason kicking star Brayden Narveson was added to the practice squad. Offensive tackle Kellen Diesch and linebacker Curtis Bolton were also added to the practice squad. It wouldn't be shocking if Watson was re-added to the PS once he clears waivers.
