The Tennessee Titans are 0-3, and you are what your record says you are in the NFL. However, being 0-3 doesn't always mean everything is terrible across the board, and Titans fans need to know what is working and what isn't.

For example, the Houston Texans are 0-3 right now, but they are loaded with talent. The problem is that the defense couldn't stop Josh Allen in Week 1, and they haven't gotten enough out of their offense since then.

When you analyze the Titans, you can look at the defense and see that they are doing their job. Everything isn't perfect, and you know they wish they could eliminate the long drives they've given up, but they rank top 10 in points allowed per game. They aren't just playing bend-don't-break defense either, they are tied for third in the NFL in tackles for loss (18), and they have had six sacks in the last two weeks.

Titans HC Robert Saleh needs to convert positive early flashes into winning games

In what might surprise some fans who are looking for a scapegoat, the Titans are actually a well-coached team this year. Again, there are always calls or decisions that people disagree with, but they are top-five in the NFL when it comes to penalty yardage, which is a stat most people point to when they try to identify poorly coached and unprepared teams.

Another scapegoat that has been taken away is the offensive line. That group has been surprisingly good (top-10 in a lot of metrics like the one below), and they deserve a lot of credit for their growth this season.

What has really killed them to this point is Cam Ward's regression, which has bogged down the offense to the point where they seem like they are trying to break the record for most three-and-outs in a season. Brian Daboll has got to find the few things that are working when the ball is in Ward's hands, and do them as often as possible.

If there is another thing that is hurting the Titans nearly as much as the passing offense, it is special teams. Two fumbled kick returns, a crucial missed field goal, inconsistent and bad kickoff attempts, and several bad punts in the first two weeks have brought this unit to lows that didn't seem possible after what the team did last year under Bones Fassel.

The bad news is that terrible play from the quarterback and special teams has made it painful to watch. The good news is that if those two things can be fixed, then this team will start to look different. There are signs of a well-coached team with a good defense and an offensive line and running game that should be able to put the team on their back if needed. That doesn't mean much when you are staring at a 0-3 record, but it will mean something if the Titans can put themselves in winnable positions later in the season.
