The first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period was a major splash for the Tennessee Titans as they were spending away on quality free agent signings that should make an immediate impact under Robert Saleh. They spent money on both sides of the ball, including on a wide receiver that everyone saw coming.
Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Titans had reached an agreement with wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson on a four-year deal worth $78 million. Robinson comes from the Giants and was with Brian Daboll in New York, and now the two will reunite in Nashville.
This pairing was inevitable, and now Robinson becomes an immediate target for Cam Ward in Daboll’s offense. Coming off his first 1,000+ yard season with the Giants, Robinson cashes in and it very much feels like his signing just put Calvin Ridley’s future with the Titans in major jeopardy.
Wan'Dale Robinson signing puts Calvin Ridley's future in doubt in Tennessee
Just two offseasons ago, the Titans signed Ridley to a massive four-year deal worth $92 million and he has just 1,320 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns to show for it in two seasons. Now granted, Ridley did have over 1,000 yards in 2024 but he only played in seven games in 2025. With the Robinson signing, it just feels like Ridley’s time in Nashville is as good as done.
With a new offensive coordinator in Daboll, Ridley doesn’t feel like a fit on this rebuilding roster and seeing that the Titans want to get the most out of Ward as a sophomore, why hang on to someone who isn’t as dynamic as he once was?
It’s a newer regime in Tennessee so this is the time to move on from players that may not fit the vision. The coaching staff has to make sure that Ward is surrounded with the right players on offense to support his second-year growth.
According to Over The Cap, the Titans can save $18 million if they designate Ridley as a post-June release. That itself should be the main factor because quite frankly, the Titans are better off starting from scratch with either younger veterans or bringing in more receiver help through the draft. Cutting him and taking the savings immediately would result in clearing $13.4 million.
The signing of Robinson could very well be bad news for Ridley, and maybe a change of scenery with an immediate contender might be the route for him. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel like he is part of the long-term solution with the Titans.
