Titans fans will enjoy Daniel Jones’ brutal honesty about Anthony Richardson

Whether this was throwing shade or not, he's not wrong.

Tennessee Titans fans have some reason for optimism in 2025, as they have a rookie quarterback who hopefully will show why he was taken number one overall in this year's draft. The same cannot be said for the Indianapolis Colts, whose quarterback situation is the stuff of nightmares.

The Colts tried their hand at drafting a franchise quarterback two years ago by taking Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick. To say that it hasn't panned out so far would be an understatement. Richardson missed most of his rookie year due to injury and then struggled to develop in Year 2.

You'd think the Colts would want to officially see if there's anything left with Richardson in his third year, but the team decided to name Daniel Jones, another failed first-rounder, the starter instead. It's a mess in Indianapolis, to say the least and Titans fans are eating all of it up.

It gets better though. When Jones was asked how he earns the trust of his teammates, he might have potentially thrown shade Richardson's way. "Just showing up and coming to work every day, trying to improve and grow in my understanding of the offense, and build chemistry with guys. I think you’re always developing that chemistry and that trust."

This could easily be taken as a slight against Richardson due to the fact that the former fourth overall pick has struggled to stay healthy during his career and as a result, can't necessarily come to work every day. In fact, a big reason why Jones likely won the job over Richardson is that the Colts' former first-rounder did indeed get injured this summer and had to miss time.

Jones might not have actually meant any harm with these comments but it's hard not to break down what he was saying and see if it actually was the case. Richardson has been injury-prone during his Colts career, which has been another reason he's fallen into the bust category so far. It's hard to develop into a franchise quarterback when you're injured all the time.

Obviously Titans fans aren't rooting for injuries but if the Colts swing and miss on Richardson (which it looks like they have), that is certainly entertainment. He was a one-year wonder in college so it's not surprising to see him struggling at the professional level but getting beat out by Jones has to be a low point for Richardson.

What will make this Colts quarterback drama even sweeter is if Cam Ward blossoms into the franchise quarterback the Titans are hoping he can be. Then they'll be set at quarterback for the foreseeable future while the Colts continue to flounder.
