The Tennessee Titans went into the free agency period and immediately began to spend, signaling the start of a new, and hopefully successful, era. When a team has close to $100 million in cap space, it's hard to not spend a metric-ton.
It does not benefit an NFL team to not spend this kind of money when it's available, and now that we're onto 2026, the main objective should be to build up this roster as much as possible and do whatever it takes to get the most out of Cam Ward.
Tennessee has already agreed to terms with a plethora of other free agents, and some of them were pretty obviously heading to the Titans. The team has also dipped into the secondary, making a huge signing at a key position of need.
Tennessee Titans to sign cornerback Alontae Taylor
The Titans have agreed to terms with former New Orleans Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor on a three-year deal worth $60 million, which comes out to a clean $20 million per year.

Taylor was the top target for Tennessee to join Robert Saleh’s defense. He started 53 games in New Orleans and is viewed as an outside corner by Tennessee. https://t.co/lt1a9sTN7p pic.twitter.com/jiTy3lcDMy
Taylor, 27 years old, was a second-round pick back in the 2022 NFL Draft and has played in all 17 games in each of the last three seasons for the Saints. He has four interceptions, 52 passes defended, seven tackes, 293 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 10 quarterback hits in his career, which has spanned 64 regular season games.
Even though Taylor is an older player heading into his second NFL contract, he does bring a history of production to the Titans secondary, which is key here. Taylor really began to settle in during his second season, and, according to PFF's data, allowed a 108.7 passer rating when in coverage this year.
The Titans clearly went into the 2026 NFL Free Agency period with a massive emphasis on the secondary, as the team is also planning on signing Cor'Dale Flott, which is notable. Overall, with Robert Saleh as the head coach, the emphasis was going to be on the defensive side of the ball.
Taylor could form a new cornerback duo alongside Flott, and if the Titans can hold up in coverage nicely in 2026, that will allow the revamped defensive line to get to the quarterback and create pressure, which then helps out the offense.
You can clearly see the plan put in place by General Manager Mike Borgonzi and everyone else involved thus far.
