The Tennessee Titans are enduring the growing pains of a roster rebuild, but at least they have their quarterback spot figured out with Cam Ward. Ward will be entering his second season as a pro in 2026. The Titans are in a position where they just need to build around him.
There are other teams that still have huge questions with their quarterback situation, including one that is right in the AFC South; the Indianapolis Colts.
Last season, Daniel Jones was the starter and there is no denying that he was on his way to putting together an MVP season. Then he suffered some injuries, including a torn achilles that ultimately ended his season and the Colts’ chances at making the playoffs. That situation hurt the Colts so bad, they convinced Philip Rivers to come out of retirement and suit up for three games.
Yeah…that was quite the shock, but it happened. Now, the Colts find themselves in yet another predicatment at quarterback. Well, there is an option that they could take (and Titans fans should be laughing out loud about it).
Colts listed as landing spot for Derek Carr, who retired last year from NFL
Former Raiders and Saints quarterback Derek Carr retired last offseason, but now he has said that he would come back and play if the situation was right. Well, the Colts were listed as a landing option for Carr by Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone.
"They [Colts] have the need at the position with Daniel Jones coming off of an injury and also set to hit free agency. They have a shot at being one of the best teams in the AFC, which they were until the injury issues for Jones became a thing last season." said Bedinger.
The Jones injury puts the Colts in a huge predicament on whether or not they should bring him back. Unless Jones decides to take a huge discount, he could very well ask for a lucrative contract because of the path that he was on before the achilles injury. If the Colts pay him big money, not only would they be taking the risk financially, but they would believe he can overcome that injury. That’s never a guarantee.
If the Colts look at other options and ultimately decide to pursue Carr (if he was even interested), it would set the Colts further back because it’s a new quarterback and Carr has significant rust to shake off. One year away from the game makes a difference both physically and mentally.
Not to mention, you could really make the argument that both Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen are on the hot seat in Indy. If they look to bring in Carr, who just took a year off from the NFL, they could very well be setting themselves up for failure and the Titans would have a great chance to get ahead of them in the division.
