There have been plenty of swings and misses in the draft for the Tennessee Titans but it'd be hard to come up with a worse first-round pick in the franchise's history than Isaiah Wilson. Sure, guys like Jake Locker and Chance Warmack rightfully earned their bust label but Wilson was on a whole other level.
After shocking the world by reaching the AFC Championship Game during the 2019 season, the Titans owned the 29th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and used that pick to select Georgia's Isaiah Wilson. Taking Wilson at that point in the draft wasn't a bad call, as he had been projected as a late first-rounder or early second-rounder. The Titans needed to find a new right tackle to replace Jack Conklin, who had signed with Cleveland over the offseason, making the pick seem like a logical one.
Why Isaiah Wilson is an easy call as the Titans' worst draft pick ever
While taking Wilson late in the first round wasn't a bad move at the time, he clearly was not worthy of being drafted that high. Things got off to a rough start, as Wilson held out of training camp to try and receive more money and then later was arrested on a DUI charge. He was also suspended by the Titans during the season for violating team rules.
Wilson played just four snaps in a rookie year marred by off-the-field issues and poor play and was so bad/such a nuisance that the Titans sent him and a seventh-round pick to Miami just to get him off their roster. Before even shipping him off, Wilson had tweeted that he wouldn't play for the Titans again only to delete it not long after. Turns out, maybe he should have kept it up, as he was traded roughly a month later.
Wilson didn't pan out for the Dolphins either, showing up late to his physical and orientation, which proved that the Titans made the right call in cutting ties with him as soon as possible. Wilson had a brief stint with the Giants in 2021 but never saw the field. He hasn't played in a regular-season game since the 2020 season with the Titans.
Say what you want about Locker, Warmack, Vince Young, Caleb Farley, or whoever else you want to dunk on for not panning out as a first-rounder but there's not an argument exists where those guys are worse than Wilson. At least they all played more than four snaps and spent more than one year with the team.
