Hue Jackson, 2018

It is one thing as a head coach to go into a season on the hot seat, as is the case with Brian Callahan in 2025. It is another thing entirely to keep your job after going 1-31 combined across two consecutive seasons, and that is exactly what Jackson did in 2018.

How he had a job going into that season was unfathomable, and of course he did not last long into Baker Mayfield's rookie year. That does not even get into the drama between the two of them, which had to have played into the decision to fire Jackson when it happened.

We hardly got any concrete details on what was going on, but there was clearly bad blood between Mayfield and Jackson during their time together in Cleveland. It was made evident later on during the season when they would have two interactions as opponents, and it must have been a truly untenable situation behind closed doors.

There are lots of things to worry about with the Titans, but one of them should not be a similar situation occurring between Cam Ward and Callahan. Everything we have seen so far between them indicates they're in complete lock step.

And even if Callahan fails to impress in 2025, at this point in time, it still makes sense to be open about his development as a head coach, especially with a handpicked quarterback. The same could not have been said for Jackson in 2018. It was truly bound to fail for the Browns.
