Jeff Fisher, 2016
As generally respected of a reputation as Fisher earned throughout his NFL coaching career, when he was at the tail end of it, he looked like a man well past his expiration date. For one thing, he was a defensive head coach. An old-school guy like him never made the most sense to oversee Jared Goff's development.
Aside from that, one knock of Fisher's reputation was that he was always known for coaching mediocre teams, even notoriously earning the nickname of "Mr. 8-8." You can see why a coach like him would fail on a team with a rookie quarterback that obviously had other holes on it.
Luckily for the Titans, Brian Callahan is a near polar opposite to what Fisher was in 2016. Callahan is a young and new offensive head coach in the NFL, and fits exactly the description of a guy who you would want overseeing the development of a young quarterback, especially one handpicked by him.
Even though Callahan coached a 3-14 team in 2024, there is at least room for him to grow, and everything he has said about approaching Ward's development has been super encouraging. If it falls apart for them in 2025, it is super unlikely to be for the same reasons as Fisher in 2016.
