Tom Brady gave Titans fans a reason to be excited about Will Levis
By Will Lomas
Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis is a polarizing player entering Year Two, but analysts who pay close attention to analytics are higher on him than the consensus.
For example, earlier this week on the Pardon My Take podcast, Pete Prisco said he believes Levis is the next Josh Allen.
That should cause Titans fans to perk their ears up, and it wasn't the only positive review of Levis to arrive this week.
On Colin Cowherd's show, Tom Brady was asked what he looks for in a young quarterback that gives him confidence that he will develop into a good quarterback. I don't think he knew it then, but Levis shows all the signs that Brady said he was looking for in a young quarterback.
The mental part
Brady talks about how a quarterback's longevity is based more on the mental side than the physical side. Brady prefers quarterbacks that can make most of the throws and escape pressure. He specifically references checking to plays that should work against the defense you are facing.
That is something Brian Callahan and Levis have been working on, and on Wednesda, Levis said he thinks he has developed more mentally than physically this offseason.
Poise and composure
Towards the end of the clip, Brady gets detailed about a situation where a young quarterback can prove himself in the NFL. His test for a quarterback is to see whether he can go on the road and inspire the other guys in the huddlle to execute a comeback victory late in the fourth quarter.
Not only did Levis do exactly that against the Miami Dolphins in primetime last season, but he led the Titans on two touchdown drives with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.
Levis was the first quarterback to successfully do that in the last 582 attempts over the previous five seasons.
It doesn't get more posied and composed than that!
Levis wasn't perfect, but his up-and-down rookie season was exactly what you expect from a young quarterback in a less-than-ideal situation. Cowherd asks Brady to identify things that normal people can't see that indicates which quarterbacks are going to be good regardless of current situation.
Levis displayed everything you needed to see to consider him "the guy" for the future. Levis will begin his 2024 campaign on Sunday. He'll plan to make it more obvious for a national audience to see that he possesses a bright future.
