3 Titans players facing a crucial training camp in 2023
By Ryan Heckman
Malik Willis, QB
Last year's quarterback class was never going to be an all-world type. We knew that going into the 2022 NFL Draft. At the same time, the top few passers certainly had some traits to like, and that's why Tennessee took a chance on Malik Willis in the third round.
As a rookie, Willis started three games and went 1-2 in those contests. However, he only threw for 276 yards, zero touchdowns and three picks during his rookie campaign. He was far from looking like an NFL player and looked lost most of the time.
Now looking like a third string quarterback just a year after being selected as a potential future starter, Willis is sitting behind veteran Ryan Tannehill and rookie Will Levis. How will he handle his second training camp knowing that he has even more of an uphill battle ahead of him?
Not only does he have an uphill battle as a possible starter in this league, but it's safe to say that Willis is already at the point where he needs to show he belongs in the league, period, even if it is just as a backup.
Training camp will reveal a lot about his character, which we have known to be strong for a while now. But, these are not going to be easy times for a now-third string quarterback in only his second year after being a top quarterback in his class.
