Titans need to locate explosive offensive plays against Jets in Week 2

Can Brian Callahan and Will Levis generate explosive plays in Week 2?

The Tennessee Titans offense was abysmal in Week 1, but they still managed to rack up more explosive plays than half of the NFL. They will need to replicate and improve on that in Week 2 against the New York Jets if they want to avoid an 0-2 start.

Will Levis played quarterback as poorly as anyone could have imagined, and the new-look offensive line didn't do him any favors. Despite that, the Titans managed to have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL in Week 1. Levis managed to hit two explosive passes (20+ yards) to Calvin Ridley, and was close to a third with his 17-yard touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo, a pass that place faith in Okonkwo's ability to win a conested catch situation.

Most of Tennessee's explosive plays were created on the ground, however. Tony Pollard had three runs longer than 10 yards, and Tyjae Spears and Will Levis each had one apiece.

Interestingly enough, the New York Jets had the NFL's worst defense against explosive plays in Week 1. They allowed six explosive runs and four explosive passes, and that was against a depleted San Francisco 49ers offense that didn't have superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, and had to deal with a rusty Brandon Aiyuk fresh off the heels of his lengthy holdout.

The Titans finished the game relatively healthy, so hopefully everything is lining up right for Brian Callahan and Levis to have another explosive game on offense. If they could do that, then it would be up to the defense to live up to the high bar they set last week.

Speaking of the Titans defense, they held the Chicago Bears to just three explosive plays in Week 1, and the 49ers held the Jets to just three explosive plays. Again, explosive plays have favored the Titans early.

If the Titans defense can replicate their Week 1 dominance at home against a Jets offense that struggled to create big plays, then it would make life easier on the offense.

The fan base is currently hoping the Titans can keep their heads above water after Sunday's disappointing performance. If Callahan can recreate the magic they had in the first half of the game, this could be a great bounce-back showing for the offense. The formula is there, the Titans just have to clean up some technical issues and play smarter football this week.
