4 emerging surprises at Tennessee Titans training camp
By Ryan Heckman
It is almost time for the Tennessee Titans to begin their preseason slate of games, as training camp is in full swing.
Through the first couple of weeks, the Titans have had some reason to celebrate; reason for hope, even. In a division that still seems fairly winnable, Tennessee shouldn't be counted out, especially if a few key positions become solidified.
During training camp, some positions have seen battles heating up, with some pleasant surprises emerging all over. Let's talk about a few of those camp surprises, and whether or not some of the lesser-known names will have a shot to make the roster.
1. John Ojukwu, OT
Ojukwu started training camp surprising everyone and looking like he could even be in the mix to start. Unfortunately, his progress was stalled after an injury a few days ago.
Prior to Ojukwu's injury, head coach Mike Vrabel had this to say about the undrafted rookie:
“He’s come in, he’s learned, he’s a smart player, he’s got good length. And so, he shows up and by being out there everyday, we tell them that they can do three things: they can improve, they can take advantage of an opportunity if it’s there and they can be evaluated. So, that’s where he’s at, just getting started." (via the Titans Wire)
It's unclear what Ojukwu's future looks like now, after his injury, and whether he'll end up sticking around for a lengthy period of time. But, if the Titans wanted to do both he and the team a favor, they would do just that. His injury didn't seem too serious, so the hope is the Titans will be able to see him take some preseason reps.
If he's able to do that, the undrafted free agent out of Boise State could continue his surprise success and make this football team.
