Mike Vrabel’s Tennessee Titans have the unenviable task of facing the first-place Miami Dolphins tonight, in South Florida no less.

The AFC East leaders sport a 9-3 record, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans have dropped nine straight road games, including all six this season.

On paper, it doesn’t look good for the last-place team in the AFC South. As we saw all around the NFL on Thursday and Sunday, several playoff contenders in both conferences took it on the chin showing that there is a reason why they play he games on a field instead of on paper.

So, when you look at the Titans’ final five games there’s plenty of opportunity for the Tennessee Titans to put a crimp in the plans of four teams hoping to make postseason plans.

What does the future have in store or the Tennessee Titans

It starts tonight at Miami where the Tennessee Titans have to take on arguably the best team in the NFL. The game is followed by back-to-back home dates with the 7-6 Houston Texans and 6-7 Seattle Seahawks. Tennessee makes its way to Houston in Week 17 and closes out the regular season by hosting the division-leading Jacksonville Jaguars.

So how much confidence can be put in a team that has won just four of its last 19 games dating back to last season? Then again, how good is the AFC South after a weekend when the Jacksonville Jaguars (31-27), Indianapolis Colts (34-14) and Houston Texans (30-6) lost by a combined score of 95-47?

In last week’s disappointing overtime home loss to the Colts, the Tennessee Titans tied their season-high in scoring with 28 points. In the team’s last two games, running back Derrick Henry has found his stride. He’s scored a pair of touchdowns vs. both Carolina and Indianapolis. He ran 21 times for 102 yards vs. the Colts before being taken out of the game after taking a hit to the helmet.

Henry is ready to go. So are quarterback Will Levis and veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins, as well as a respectable defensive unit. If the Tennessee Titans’ offensive line can open holes for Henry and keep Levis out of harm’s way, the Titans could make things uncomfortable for their remaining opponents.

Of course, IF has been the keyword for the Tennessee Titans over the last calendar year, and they have continued to find ways to stumble and lose.
