5 teams the Titans have the worst record against in the NFL
Sometimes a team just has another team's number. The Tennessee Titans aren't excluded from this and have plenty of teams in the NFL who they struggle against. Let's take a look at the five teams who the Titans have struggled against the most, according to StatMuse.
5. Philadelphia Eagles
- Record: 5-8
- Winning Percentage: .385
Kicking off our list is the Eagles, who have a winning percentage of .385 against Tennessee. These two franchises have squared off a total of 13 times with the Eagles winning eight of those games, including the first six match-ups.
The Titans franchise got their first win against the Eagles in 2000, which was the first time they played the Eagles as the Titans and not the Houston Oilers. Tennessee proceeded to win four games versus the Eagles before Philly broke that streak and the two teams have swapped wins over their last three meetings.
The most recent match-up between the Titans and Eagles came in December 2022 when the Eagles won 35-10. Philadelphia made it to the Super Bowl that season while the Titans finished 7-10.
4. Los Angeles Chargers
- Record: 16-28-1
- Winning Percentage: .367
Next on the list are the Chargers, who the Titans own a .367 winning percentage against. Unlike the Eagles, who the Titans haven't faced much due to the two being in different conferences, the Titans and Chargers have squared off plenty of times, including as recently as the 2023 season where Tennessee won 27-24.
That was one of Tennessee's 16 wins against the Chargers and they've had some pretty rough losing streaks against the Chargers franchise. One of the longest losing streaks happened between 1963 and 1967 and another one occurred between 1993 and 2012. It took nearly two decades for them to win against the Chargers, which really hit their head-to-head record hard.
It is worth noting, however, that the Titans have won two of the last three match-ups against the Chargers. They're slowly but surely trying to even the head-to-head record so it doesn't look as daunting.
3. Indianapolis Colts
- Record: 21-37
- Winning Percentage: .362
It feels like a lot of times the opponents on these best and worst records stats are teams that you don't see as often. That's not the case for the Colts sadly, who the Titans have the third-worst record against with a winning percentage of .362.
A lot of this stems from the fact that Peyton Manning played in the AFC South for over a decade, inflating the Colts' record against Tennessee. Manning and the Colts had plenty of success against the Titans, recording winning streaks of seven (from 2003 to 2006) and five (from 2008 to 2011) before Manning left for the AFC West.
Unfortunately, Andrew Luck then came into the AFC South and continued to dominate the Titans. The Colts went on an 11-game winning streak versus Tennessee that spanned from 2011 to 2016. The Titans helped their head-to-head record with a five-game winning streak against the Colts from 2020 to 2022, which helped soften the blow here.
2. Minnesota Vikings
- Record: 5-9
- Winning Percentage: .357
... and now we're back to teams that the Titans don't see as often. They own a .357 winning percentage and have won just five games against the Vikings with one of those wins coming in the recent match-up (a 31-30 victory).
The Vikings had a four-game win streak versus Tennessee that spanned from 1995 to 2008. The two will meet up during the 2024 season so perhaps the Titans will be able to come another game closer of evening the score between these two.
1. Arizona Cardinals
- Record: 4-8
- Winning Percentage: .333
The team that the Titans have the worst record against in the NFL is the Cardinals, who they own a measly .333 winning percentage against. The two have faced each other 12 times with the Cardinals holding serve in eight of those 12 match-ups.
It took the Titans until their fourth meeting with the Cardinals to win a game and they're currently riding a three-game losing streak to Arizona. The last time the Titans beat the Cardinals was in 2009 when they won 20-17. The last meet-up came in 2021 when Arizona put the beatdown on the Titans, blasting them 38-13.
Maybe the Titans' luck will turn against these teams in the future but right now, these are the five teams they struggle against the most.
