Right Guard

The right guard competition was thrown into a frenzy following the unexpected retirement of Saahdiq Charles. His departure came as a surprise to the coaching staff. Charles was considered the heavy in-house favorite to win the job, and was listed as the starter on the recent unofficial depth chart release.

Dillon Radunz is now the favorite to open the regular season as the starting right guard, but Brian Callahan is still holding an open competition at the position. Andrew Rupcich, previously listed as the second-team left guard, and last year's starter Daniel Brunskill are now pushing for the gig. Rupcich is a legitimate contender, and the immediate move to include him in this competition signals the staff isn't totally sold on Radunz.

Monitor how the Titans divide the right guard workload versus the 49ers. If Levis and the offensive starters play two possessions, is Radunz the right guard for both drives? Does Rupcich split first-team reps? When does Brunskill factor into the equation? Bill Callahan's thought process will be revealed.
