3 offensive players to watch in Titans' preseason debut vs. 49ers
By Justin Melo
The Tennessee Titans will officially debut their new-look offense versus the San Francisco 49ers in their first preseason game on Saturday evening. While they may take a "vanilla" approach, head coach Brian Callahan has consistently confirmed that the starters will play extensively throughout the preseason, including a "series or two" versus the 49ers. Franchise quarterback Will Levis will receive the start.
With DeAndre Hopkins sidelined with a knee injury, starting receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd should play briefly alongside Levis.
Regardless of how many series' the offensive starters play, there are several talents worth watching closely. We've identified three Titans on offense that you should particularly monitor versus the 49ers.
Treylon Burks, WR
Treylon Burks reported to camp in the best physical shape of his life. It's led to several impressive practices as a more aggressive and confident version of Burks has at times dominated one-versus-one reps. But it's not the first time the former first-round receiver has impressed during the summer, so carrying those performances over to live-game reps should be a critical part of the evaluation.
Burks was demoted this offseason by the acquisitions of Boyd and Ridley, but the injury to Hopkins provides new opportunity. The ex Arkansas playmaker entered the summer tasked with maximizing the chances that come his way, and just one revealed itself. Burks should play early and often versus the 49ers.
