The Titans are mentioned as a potential destination for a linebacker on the move.

It was reported last week by Ian Rapoport that the Chicago Bears had granted permission for linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to seek a trade, and the soon to be 28-year old could be on his third team of his career. When a team usually gives permission to a player to seek a trade, it typically means that they are ready to move on and most of the time, players end up just getting released.

However, Edmunds is still right in the middle of his prime and he’s nowhere near the end of it. Jeremy Fowler from ESPN is reporting that Edmunds has strong trade value and that the Titans are a team that likes Edmunds. Fowler reported that the Titans, Raiders, and Giants were the three teams that like “high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who’s only 27 despite eight years in the league.”

"One player who has strong trade value and a decent chance to be dealt is Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The Titans, Raiders and Giants are among teams interested in high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who's only 27 despite eight years in the league. He was granted permission to seek a trade earlier this week." said Fowler.

Titans have chance to add solid veteran to improve defense

We'll reiterate that if a team grants a player permission to seek a trade, more than likely intrigued suitors will wait for that player to be released. However, that doesn’t always happen. Edmunds was drafted in the first round in 2018 by the Buffalo Bills, and that was when Titans OC Brian Daboll was with the Bills, so there is a little bit of familiarity.

After five seasons with Buffalo, Edmunds signed a four-year deal with the Chicago Bears in 2023. In every single season of his career, Edmunds has recorded 100-plus tackles. He has also averaged three interceptions per season in his last three years with the Bears.

Tennessee has the opportunity to trade for Edmunds and acquiring him would give the Titans someone who has plenty of experience and is right in the middle of his prime. Adding him to the defense that will be led by Robert Saleh would give Tennessee versatility and the chance to utilize him in many different ways.

If the Titans do indeed look to trade for Edmunds, it will be interesting to see what they offer. He is still a young player but because his time in Chicago appears over, it almost makes you wonder whether the Titans should just wait to see if he gets released. Then again, if they wait for that to happen and Edmunds either stays in Chicago or gets traded somewhere else, then Tennessee misses out on a quality veteran.
