The Tennessee Titans haven't had a ton to smile about in the last few years, but they are assuredly in a better position than the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans have been bad before, but only BIll Peterson was as embarrassingly bad as Urban Meyer was during his NFL tenure.

The coaching mismatch that took place between former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Meyer was as cavernous as Springfield Gorge. Not only was Meyer unable to schematically construct a winning team, but he wasn't even aware of what was going on around him. He didn't even know who Aaron Donald was!

Vrabel, who has spent this season in a consultant role with the Cleveland Browns, told Peyton and Eli Manning a story about Meyer on the Monday Night Football ManningCast that showed just how in over his skis the former Ohio State coach was during his time in the NFL. It almost sounds fake due to how ridiculous it is.

During the Baltimore Ravens-Los Angeles Chargers game, Vrabel told a story about Meyer asking who Vrabel was after a game when he was coaching Jacksonville. Vrabel was blown away by this claim, as he worked as Meyer's defensive line coach at Ohio State for two seasons.

Former Titans coach Mike Vrabel claims Urban Meyer didn't know his name

The Jaguars won just three games during what was Trevor Lawrence's rookie season, two of which came before Meyer was fired. The Titans weren't that good in the last two years of the Vrabel era, but they were productive enough to consistently outperform the Jaguars.

While the Jaguars had a brief period of success in the last few years, they have regressed to the mean in 2024. Trevor Lawrence has injured his shoulder, Doug Pederson seems to be shocked that he isn't fired, and the Jaguars have a very real chance to win the Travis Hunter sweepstakes. They are significantly worse than the 2024 Titans. Jacksonville will likely have a new head coach next year, and the Titans will have continuity in the front office, putting them at an advantage.

While head coach Brian Callahan has had some missteps in what has become a somewhat disappointing 3-9 start to life as Titans head coach, he has been able to avoid the almost comical dysfunction that became the only thing people remembered about Meyer in Jacksonville. Plus, he knows the other coaches by name.
