While draft picks are usually the newcomers that generate the most excitement every season, there are always a few undrafted rookies that find a way to make their names known as well. The Tennessee Titans are already experiencing that with wide receiver Xavier Restrepo. Throughout the early days of training camp, Restrepo has made it clear that he’s not just Cam Ward’s college teammate, he’s a really good receiver.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan explained that Wednesday morning, praising the rookie for just simply being a good football player and finding a way to make plays. The coach detailed that Restrepo knows how to get open, so the quarterbacks know how to find him.

Notably, Callahan said there’s just something about Restrepo as a football player that you can’t measure. That’s important because the reason the wideout went undrafted is because of measurements. During the pre-draft process, there were a lot of discussions about Restrepo‘s 5-foot-10, 209-pound frame, and his unofficial 4.83 40-yard dash. However, through all the questions about how he would transition to the next level, the receiver made it clear that he’s a football player, and none of the pre-draft tests can accurately depict how well he does that.

What is an accurate representation of his game is actually playing football. The last time he did that was at Miami with Ward, and he caught 69 passes for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns. Just like Callahan said, Restrepo found ways to get open, and Ward consistently found him.

Now, the two will try to continue that at the next level. Of course, Ward, as the No. 1 overall pick, was always a lock to make the team. Restrepo, however, was facing an uphill battle as an undrafted rookie. He seems to be on the right path, though, and if he continues to impress, he could carve out a role for himself in Tennessee’s wide receiver rotation.
