It's not even training camp but this Titans rival may soon regret a big gamble

As the Tennessee Titans improve, one of their AFC South rivals could be regressing after a poorly calculated gamble.

The Tennessee Titans were the worst team in the NFL in 2024, and they are motivated to change that. The franchise is hoping that change will start with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. Like many highly-drafted quarterbacks, Tennessee would love for Ward to lead them to contender status. Before that can happen, the Titans must first conquer their division. Fortunately, Tennessee isn’t in the toughest division.

The AFC South is frequently referred to as the worst division in football. While the Titans are a reason why that’s the case, they can rejoice because the top of the division is seemingly in reach. The Houston Texans have won the division the last two years, finishing with a 10-7 record in each season. Not only is 10 wins not that dominant, not everyone is convinced the Texans aren’t moving backwards.

In a recent piece in The Athletic, looking at one lingering question for all 32 teams, their staff asked if the retooled offensive line will do a better job of protecting C.J. Stroud. The retooling of that line included trading away Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders. That surprising move could ultimately come back to haunt Houston.

Titans could make Texans regret trading Laremy Tunsil

The 2024 season was a bad year for Houston’s offensive line, so it was clear change was necessary. However, no one imagined Tunsil would be included in that change. Nevertheless, the Texans moved on from the five-time Pro Bowler, and other linemen, and brought in several veterans in free agency and by trade, as well as newcomers in the draft.

It could all work out for Houston, and the team could keep Stroud up right, allowing him to thrive. However, if the gamble doesn’t work out in the Texans’s favor, the hopefully improved Titans must be ready to make a run at the AFC South throne.
