The Tennessee Titans made a few moves ahead of the trade deadline in the 2024 regular season with one of those moves involving the trade of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The Titans signed Hopkins during the 2023 offseason but when it was clear they weren't going anywhere in 2024, they didn't hesitate to trade him to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hopkins helped the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl but he wasn't able to secure the first championship of his lengthy NFL career. Hopkins was sent to Kansas City in exchange for a fifth-round pick that initially could have been upgraded to a fourth-round pick, but wasn't.
With the fifth-round now in the books, let's check out the finalized details of the Hopkins trade with the Chiefs.
Titans Day 3 draft pick completes DeAndre Hopkins trade with Chiefs
Titans receive:
- Pick 167 in 2025 NFL Draft
With the fifth-round pick that the Titans got in the Hopkins trade, they selected guard Jackson Slater out of Sacramento State. Building the offensive line depth is always important so hopefully Slater can be a valuable depth piece (or even a starter someday) for the Titans. The truth is that we probably won't know who won the trade for a year or two because it'll all depend on Slater now.
Chiefs receive:
- DeAndre Hopkins
Hopkins appeared in 10 regular season games for Kansas City, tallying 437 yards and four touchdowns but wasn't utilized much in the playoffs. Hopkins had just three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown during KC's Super Bowl run and the Chiefs opted to let him walk in free agency. They gave up a fifth-round pick for 13 games from Hopkins, which wasn't a bad deal for them.
Hopkins went on to sign with the Ravens in free agency, so he was a one-and-done player in Kansas City but did help them in the regular season. That being said, the early winner in this trade is Kansas City. All it gave up for Hopkins was a fifth-rounder so unless Slater turns into a bonafide star on the Titans' o-line, the advantage right now goes to the Chiefs. That could change though.
