Former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson has been out of the league since his controversial firing midway through the 2022 season. Robinson inherited a 3-13 Titans team in 2016 and quickly changed their fortunes. After his first offseason, the Nashville-based club improved drastically to 9-7.

Robinson initially navigated the Titans' rebuild flawlessly. With Marcus Mariota already on the roster, he traded the No. 1 overall pick for a king's ransom. Robinson drafted potential Hall of Famers like Derrick Henry, A.J. Brown, Jeffery Simmons, and Kevin Byard in short succession.

The Titans thrived for a few years. They rounded off six consecutive winning seasons under his leadership, representing one of the most successful stints in franchise history, including an AFC Championship Game appearance, three playoff wins, and two division titles. It eventually came crashing down, but Robinson is now ready to resurface back in the NFL.

Former Titans GM Jon Robinson lands new job with Miami Dolphins

Robinson began making blunders that led to his dismissal. He spent three consecutive first-round picks on Isaiah Wilson, Caleb Farley, and Treylon Burks. Of course, the Burks error involved the stunning Brown trade, which Robinson never recovered from.

Robinson also acquired veterans like Jadeveon Clowney, Vic Beasley, Julio Jones, and Robert Woods in a series of high-priced moves that involved trading draft picks and/or free agency gambles. They all backfired. The Titans seriously regressed and Robinson was fired midway through 2022 after Brown's Eagles embarrassed him. It was the beginning of an ongoing four-year losing streak.

On Monday evening, the Miami Dolphins hired Robinson as their senior personnel executive, Ian Rapoport reported. The Dolphins are under new leadership. Jon-Eric Sullivan is their new GM and they hired Jaff Hafley as head coach. Hafley and Robinson crossed paths with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.

Ironically, Sullivan was among the favorites to land the Titans' GM job a year ago. He worked for several years in Green Bay alongside Titans president Chad Brinker, who was leading the search. Brinker ultimately passed on his pal Sullivan, hiring Mike Borgonzi instead.

Robinson will possess an opportunity to prove he's learned from his mistakes in Miami.
