Former Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley is among the bigger NFL Draft misfires in the team's recent history. A 2021 first-round pick, Farley underwent setback after setback, both professionally and personally, leading up to his untimely release. It just never worked out for the former Virginia Tech standout in Nashville.
Farley entered the NFL with concerns about his back. He tore his ACL as a rookie and missed most of the 2022 season, and all of the 2023 campaign after the back issues resurfaced. Farley returned ahead of 2024 training camp, but was sidelined with a hamstring injury, missing two pivotal preseason contests. That's when the Titans made the difficult decision to move on.
Farley eventually latched on with the Carolina Panthers during the early portion of the 2024 season. The Maiden, North Carolina native played 169 defensive snaps for the Panthers last year, appearing in nine total games. Farley also chipped in via 55 special teams snaps.
Former Titans CB Caleb Farley deserves NFL training camp invite
In Carolina, Farley occasionally flashed hope for a return to form. Pro Football Focus credited him with allowing just nine receptions for 74 yards. That means Farley forfeited just 8.2 yards per reception and eliminated big-play opportunities.
Farley appeared in just 12 contests with the Titans in three years, recording 14 tackles and one pass breakup. By the middle of his sophomore campaign, he was exclusively relegated to playing special teams. But the brief stints of positive play in Carolina indicate the book shouldn't be fully closed.
There are several CB-needy teams that should consider giving Farley an opportunity to compete on a 90-man roster at training camp. The Miami Dolphins, who have various ex Titans coaches on staff, just traded Jalen Ramsey. Farley's former position coach Anthony Midget is with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his former defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is with the New York Giants. Obviously Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots possess multiple staff connections.
Hopefully Farley receives an opportunity to join an NFL training camp in a few weeks time.
