It’s been a rough three weeks for the Tennessee Titans. Specifically, the offense has looked underwhelming at best. Brian Daboll hasn’t been able to provide that spark that fans were hoping for when he was hired as the offensive coordinator.
Sunday’s game against the New York Giants was just another example of a horrendous offensive outing. The Titans scored more touchdowns than the Giants…and still lost. New York kicked four field goals while the Titans only scored one touchdown. Plain and simple, it’s been a pathetic showing for fans.
Starting right guard Fernando Carmona was carted off with an injury, but luckily, it doesn't seem to be anything too serious. According to Jordan Schultz, Carmona suffered an ankle sprain and will only be sidelined for a few games. While the Titans avoided a worst-case scenario, his replacement in Jackson Slater also went down with a serious foot injury.
Titans could turn to Kevin Zeitler after Fernando Carmona injury blow
The Titans are now dealing with a massive hole at right guard with both of these injuries. This would be a perfect time for them to bring back free-agent guard Kevin Zeitler.
Zeitler spent the 2025 season with the Titans and he remains a free agent. Even at 36 years old, Zeitler is still a better option than anyone else on the free agent market, or even on the practice squad.
He would just need to learn the playbook and know the difference in what Brian Daboll is looking to do with this unit. For someone who has been in the NFL since 2012, that shouldn't be a problem at all.
It's one thing to lose a starter, but it's another thing to lose the backup in the same position. Quite frankly, that's completely unheard of. With the way the Titans' offense has operated through the first three games, they could use any kind of help at this point.
If the Titans go into the month of October with a practice squad player to try and protect Cam Ward, they are not going to be efficient at all. Ward has only been sacked five times this season, which is a much better rate compared to last season. However, the right guard spot now has a major hole that has to be filled.
It makes complete sense to bring Zeitler back ahead of the Titans' Week 4 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Not making this reunion happen would be a big time mistake on Mike Borgonzi's end.
