The Tennessee Titans have undergone a thorough process while evaluating their options with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. General manager Mike Borgonzi and his staff began narrowing down their choices after hosting Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter on pre-draft visits.

Ward became the in-house favorite after impressing the Titans' staff on his visit to Nashville, according to various national and local reports. And following Miami's Pro Day, Ward continued strengthening his grip on his chances to go No. 1 overall to Tennessee after a strong performance.

Ward impresses the Titans via strong Pro Day performance

Ward decided against participating physically at the NFL Combine, leaving Monday's Pro Day as his lone pre-draft showcase. He also declined invites to the collegiate all-star games like the Senior Bowl.

Unsurprisingly, the Titans sent a large contingent to Miami, a group that included Borgonzi, head coach Brian Callahan, president of football operations Chad Brinker, front-office assistants Reggie McKenzie and Dave Ziegler, and offensive coordinator Nick Holz, among others. The Titans took Ward to dinner on Sunday evening, according to Paul Kuharsky.

Ward impressed Tennessee's front office and coaching staff. The Hurricanes standout threw the football flawlessly, displaying arm strength, velocity, touch, and accuracy as required. Pass catchers on the receiving end of Ward's throwing attempts included wide receiver Xavier Restrepo and tight end Elijah Arroyo, his favorite targets this past season.

Ward did not test athletically, opting against opportunities to run the 40 yard dash or leap a vertical jump. Instead, the showcase focused solely on his ability to throw the football, both on schedule and off platform. Ward enjoyed a flawless throwing session with Borgonzi and Callahan paying close attention.

Callahan made comparisons to Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow while speaking with members of the national media in a televised setting. Borgonzi did the same, mentioning Patrick Mahomes as a comparison due to Ward's ability to throw off platform, or with a side-arm motion. They are lofty comparisons.

Ward's Pro Day qualified as the continuation of a strong senior season at Miami. The former Incarnate Word and Washington State quarterback threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He added four additional rushing scores to his offensive totals. Ward led Miami to their first 10-win season since 2017, aweing the nation with his ability to create explosive off-script plays.

Ward was already the hands-on favorite to be the Titans' No. 1 overall selection. The chances of that projection becoming reality greatly increased following a strong Pro Day performance. With the 2025 NFL Draft approximately one month away, the Titans appear to be zeroing in on their next franchise quarterback.
