The Tennessee Titans decided to bench Will Levis last week and the change at quarterback didn't change the results on the field in Week 16. The Titans still lost and they're now 3-12 on the year.
The loss didn't help Brian Callahan with his quarterback decision moving forward, as the Titans head coach said on Monday morning that he doesn't know who will start against the Jaguars in Week 17. Callahan did somewhat praise Mason Rudolph, but also said that he needed to see more from Rudolph. He also said he wants the quarterback out there who gives Tennessee the best chance to win.
Well, if giving the team the best chance to win is what Callahan is looking for, that's not a great argument for putting Levis back out there. The former second-round pick in last year's draft won just five games in 20 starts and never showed that he could be a franchise guy for this team.
Brian Callahan's QB comments don't bode well for Will Levis getting his job back
Rudolph wasn't great in his fourth start of the season, throwing three interceptions but still helping the team climb back into the game in the second half. He finished with 252 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
As Callahan said, Rudolph needs to show more but at this point, we all know what Levis is and the organization will be moving on from him this offseason so throwing him back out there doesn't do much for the team. The Titans will be signing a veteran quarterback in free agency and then finding a quarterback prospect in the draft, likely on Day 2 or even Day 3.
Unfortunately for the Titans, this isn't a great upcoming year for quarterback prospects. Callahan might try to swing for the fences and do something bold like bring in Sam Darnold, hoping to continue the trajectory he's been on in Minnesota. It'll be interesting to see what the team does decide to do but one thing has become clear and it's that Levis isn't the answer moving forward. These latest comments might have doomed him for good.
