The Tennessee Titans are ramping up their search to replace the recently fired Ran Carthon as general manager. Six candidates emerged earlier this week, including Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi, and several others. Terry McCormick of Titans insider is reporting that the first round of interviews with candidates will begin virtually Thursday through Saturday, with in-person interviews commencing on Monday and Tuesday.
The Titans will be awarding decision making to president of football operations Chad Brinker as they shift their power structure. Brinker is currently overseeing the process of appointing Carthon's successor. The following three candidates have allegedly joined the applicant list.
3 more GM candidates for Tennessee Titans revealed
Thomas Dimitroff
Former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff makes an appearance on Tennessee's potential wishlist, according to McCormick. Dimitroff is just the second ex-GM on the candidates list, joining Reggie McKenzie. The former Falcons leader enjoyed some success in Atlanta.
Dimitroff was Atlanta’s general manager from 2008 to 2020. He's seemingly making his rounds, having recently interviewed for the New York Jets' vacancy as well. Dimitroff possesses a stellar background in personnel, starting off as a scout before working his way up the ladder.
Matt Berry
Seattle Seahawks senior director of player personnel Matt Berry is expected to interview as well, per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. Brinker has mentioned that the Titans want to be a draft-and-develop team. Berry certainly fits the bill.
Berry initially joined Seattle as a regional scout before being promoted and earning more responsibility. He eventually landed himself the director of college scouting role. In 2023, Berry was promoted to senior director of player personnel. The Seahawks have generally drafted well throughout John Schneider's tenure, recently adding talents like Devon Witherspoon, DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Charles Cross.
Ian Cunningham
Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham was a finalist for Tennessee's opening two offseasons ago when Carthon ultimately landed the job. Cunningham has a fantastic reputation around the league despite the Chicago Bears' struggles. Ryan Poles' No. 2 will be interviewing with the Titans again, per Jordan Schultz.
Cunningham has worked under some of football's brightest minds. He worked alongside Ozzie Newsome, Eric DeCosta, and Joe Horitz in Baltimore. After leaving the Ravens, Cunningham studied under Howie Roseman and Joe Douglas, among others, with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former University of Virginia player appears primed and ready for a GM role.
