Tennessee Titans trade targets from the Atlanta Falcons
Marlon Davidson, defensive line
The Tennessee Titans have shown that they aren’t afraid to take on reclamation projects and this might be one of the few cases where getting away from Dean Pees helps the Titans.
Davidson wasn’t drafted to fit the defense Atlanta is running now and he is only playing around 25% of the defensive snaps. As a second-round pick he had the pedigree of someone who deserved a look, but with the Falcons basically eliminated from the playoffs already there isn’t really a reason to force the fit any longer.
Meanwhile, in Tennessee, Davidson would be asked to play the jumbo 5-tech position. While the Titans have plenty of defensive talent, very few of their linemen fit this position and they have been forced to use guys like Amani Bledsoe in that role.
In college, Davidson was able to play outside and thrive because future top-10 pick Derrick Brown occupied the middle of the defensive line and dominated. In Tennessee, the Titans have Jeffery Simmons doing all that dirty work so that a specialized player like Davidson can really shine if given a chance.
