Tennessee Titans OC Todd Downing/DC Shane Bowen earn their spots.

It doesn’t take much to understand why Shane Bowen is on this list. The Tennessee Titans addressed problem areas on the defense by adding guys like the aforementioned Bud Dupree, Denico Autry, and Jackrabbit Jenkins during the free-agency period. They added Monty Rice, Caleb Farley, Elijah Molden, and Rashad Weaver in the NFL Draft.

Don’t you dare tell us that this defense shouldn’t be performing better than it is. Since it isn’t, you have to look at the coaching. Guys that we’ve seen be productive aren’t doing much, and the young guys are getting coached up and on the field. Those are serious issues.

On the offensive side of the ball, here’s what has us stressed. After performing well under Arthur Smith when he was the Titans’ offensive coordinator, there’s been a considerable dropoff since Todd Downing has taken over.

Sure, there was that offensive explosion in the second half and during overtime versus the Seattle Seahawks, but here’s something to mull over. Should Downing be given the credit for that, or was that the result of amazing efforts by the Titans’ stars, including their biggest star, Derrick Henry? Are we talking about great coaching or the efforts of great players? Think about that for a second if you will.
