Tennessee Titans linebacker Monty Rice

You remember this guy right? The Tennessee Titans selected former Georgia Bulldogs standout Monty Rice with the 92nd-overall selection, during Round 3 of the most recent NFL Draft. Some thought that was a reach at the time, and since those statements were made, the rookie hasn’t done a ton to make anyone feel like those declarations were inaccurate.

Be honest. How many times have you thought about Monty Rice before the preseason slate of games started? How many times have you brought his name up since then?

Rice hasn’t ever proven that he was excellent in pass coverage or that he can get to the opposing team’s signal-caller with any real regularity. Meanwhile, Tennessee’s fourth-round selection, Rashad Weaver, has seen his stock skyrocket.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein gave Rice a pre-draft grade of 5.94 in his profile of this Titans prospect, meaning he sees the young man as a possible backup or special teamer. Rice isn’t necessarily stinking it up at camp, but he isn’t sizzling either. Unfortunately, because of where he was drafted, Tennessee needs to see a lot more sizzle than fizzle, and they definitely aren’t getting that.
