NFL Power Rankings: Number 2, Kansas City Chiefs

Some would say the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s best team even though they lost the most recent Super Bowl. With Andy Reid as their head coach and an offensive coordinator as talented as Eric Bieniemy and with talents like Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, and Tyreek Hill on the roster, no one would give you much of a fuss about that take.

That is, no one would give you much fuss until everyone remembers who the reigning Super Bowl champions are.

When you hear things like the winner of the Super Bowl is returning all 22 starters, if you’re like most stat junkies and die-hard NFL fans, you have to and look up the last time something like that has happened.

You have to go all the way back to 1976 to see the last time something like that has happened. Tampa’s entire draft was about adding depth. They didn’t have to correct anything. Oh, and get this. They added Joe Tryon, one of the 2021 NFL Draft class’s best pass rushers, during the most recent selection meeting, and they added Giovani Bernard during free agency.
