Don’t sleep on Anthony Firkser if you’re a Tennessee Titans fan.

The full clip is below, but when Kevin Byard was asked about Anthony Firkser, he wasn’t shy about giving him praise.

Byard said that Firkser belongs in the conversation with Delanie Walker and Jonnu Smith as a top-flight tight end.

It is important to remember that Jonnu Smith wasn’t a great blocker early in his career and you could argue that he really didn’t look like an above-average blocker until the 2020 season. There is a good chance that Firkser has developed into a better blocker than what he showed last season.

Even if Firkser isn’t a great blocker, he more than makes up for it in the passing game where he was much more efficient than Jonnu Smith. In fact, people may remember that he was such a good receiving threat that he actually led the team in snaps from the slot.

Going forward, the tight end storyline is going to be a big one to watch, but as long as defenses have to contend with Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, Derrick Henry, and Ryan Tannehill, they aren’t going to be in a position to focus on trying to exploit the weakness in Firkser’s game.
