There’s a reason the Tennessee Titans had a shot at Kalija Lipscomb this offseason.

Some of you probably didn’t need an introduction to Kalija Lipscomb when the Tennessee Titans added him to the roster on May 17th after a recent tryout. He played his college ball at the University of Vanderbilt as a member of the Commodores. Over the course of a 46-game career, he notched 198 receptions for 2,356 yards and 22 touchdowns.

That’s pretty good for anyone playing at Vandy, but it wasn’t enough to get teams pumped up enough to draft him during three days and seven rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs added him as an undrafted free agent shortly thereafter, and even though he keeps finding his way onto NFL rosters (Tennessee will be the third team he’s spent time on since last season), he has yet to appear in a game that counts against a team’s win-loss total or tally his first NFL catch.

To be frank, it’s probably not going to happen in Nashville. Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, Dez Fitzpatrick, and Josh Reynolds are probably locks to make the roster. That’s a safe bet, right? That means the Titans are carrying eight other guys into the preseason who are competing for two roster spots.

Lipscomb is looking up at quite a few guys on the depth chart, and that’s a pretty good indication that this young man will again fall victim to the numbers game. There’s really no reason to waste a ton of his or the Titans’ time here.
